Long time no post....

Sorry bout not posting in a while. I have been extremely busy doing.....well, whatever it is that I do. Anyway, I have been thinking about a ? that was brought up in my high school Sunday school class, and I would like you guys to tell us me thoughts on this subject.

Can someone be a "christian" and still believe that abortion is acceptable? Or can someone still be a "Christian" and believe there is more than one way to heaven, like thru different religions?

For example, in one of President Barack Obama quotes,( I am not trying to really pick on him, he just happened to be a person high up in the public spotlight who had this view) He says " I am a christian, I am a very devout Christian.." and he goes on to say that he believes in the whole death, burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Now the ? that was brought up was, how can he be a christian and still accept abortion? I think if someone had any concept of what the Bible says about abortion,(which i think is essentially murder), and even the ten commandments, you would realize that abortion is wrong. The Bible says when you become a New person, you put away the old person and everything that is ascociated with the old person.

Now another thing that I have heard that Obama has said is that He thinks that abortion is morally wrong, but, if he outlaws it, it will still continue to occur, and end up taking place in the alleyways and in unsafe places, which will cause more of the women who are having abortions to die. Some people think that is a coverup, some believe him. It doesn't matter if it's all a lie or not. It does matter tho, that in the U.S. alone approximately 3,700 aborions take place every day, and almost 1.37 million every year. 42 MILLION take place every year world wide.

Soo.. anyone who proclaims to be a christian, and yet still accepts abortion as okay, I will forever question how strong that person's relationship is,if they really have one, with God.

Wow, very thought-provoking. I hate to judge, but my belief is that the Christians who think abortion is OK are either grossly misinformed, or just ignoring the words of Jesus. (bad news for them)
And as for illegal abortions, I would view it in terms of murder: even though murder is illegal, it happens a lot less because there are penalties involved, etc. Also, I firmly believe that many women (especially young women) getting abortions wouldn't be if it were actually made clear to them that the "tissue" inside of them was a human being (not a fish, blob, parasite, etc) many of them would not make that choice. Thanks for such a good post.

I think I agree with Hannah here. Good post. Murdering is what I call it, and murdering a person who has not known what Summer tastes like, the wind of Autumn on their face, the fragence of spring, winters beauty...the list goes on. It's just heartless.
In Christ,

To not just restate it, I agree with Hannah as well.

However, there are situations in which a potential mother may have to get an abortion, such as if it puts her health in jeopardy.

There was something else I was gonna say but I forgot.

Yes, if it is dangarous for the mother to have it, then she should, but that is definiantly not the reason of why the majority of women do it. Its a point though, I'll give you that

I think the problem would be solved if scientests made better contraceptives. Isn't that the opinion you guys want?

Hannah said...

That doesn't exactly teach responsibilty.

Aaaaahhhh, such deep thoughts..

yeah, I think it's profitable to hash these things. We can let our convictions spin around in our heads, but until we can convey them effectively to other people, they don't do anyone much good. It kind of prepares us for adult life, in a way.

I think abortion is really selfish. Instead of a woman taking responsibility for her actions, she kills her child. It really goes along with the american mindset. "It's all about me." So it really shouldn't be surprising that it happens all the time. Though I'm not saying it is right. We still need to strongly fight it.

joshthecollegekid said...

I think we can all say abortion is bad, but no one has answered my original ?.

Can somone be a christian, and believe abortion is okay? Will they go to heaven?

Cassia said...

All sins are forgivable. So yes a person still can be a christian and believe in abortion. They will still go to heaven. But I would tend to say that most people who believe in abortion are not christians.

I believe that if they repent (as with any sin) God is faithful to forgive. However, those who don't repent of murder are basically throwing God's law in His face, which is not a good idea.

Aaron said...

But some people genuinley don't believe abortion is murder!

Hannah said...

It doesn't matter, they're still wrong.

Aaron said...

But wrong is relative!

Well, literally translated it means "Oh, the love!" But it really goes more to say "good grief!" " for Pete's sake!" or "I'm getting fed up."

or maybe even, "Ug-bug"..i say that one a lot...

Yes, a person can be a Christian and believe abortion is ok. Why? Because a Christian's faith hinges on the death and resurrection of Jesus, and his atonement of our sins. If they just believe that abortion is ok... why should that condemn them to hell? It isn't true according to the Bible, but it's not like they are having abortions, right? But if they become huge advocates of abortion, or have abortions and say that there is nothing wrong with what they did... that's where the problem comes in. Because now they've committed murder, or have been an accomplice in the murder of someone else (by advocating it). And if you murder... that's breaking one of the 10 Commandments. And if you don't repent before you die... then you've sinned, and can't enter heaven.

Bottom line... Christians shouldn't be dumb enough to think they can believe in a contradiction. But if they do, it really isn't a problem until they act upon it. Right?

I think that stupid people should be eradicated from the face of the earth.

Well, saying that abortion is OK is, in essence, condoning murder. Bad idea.
